Open Racing

Don't have a Sunfish but own a small sailboat? We invite all small sailboat classes to sail our race course with us and try regatta sailing. Call ahead.

Who we are

GDSC is a mobile club of 20 to 30 families who sail our small "yachts" at different sailing sites. Help is always at hand to launch your Sunfish, or to lift it from your car top or trailer. Our committee boat sets our course, runs our races, and acts as a safety boat.

Where we sail

At Stony Creek, Kensington, and other Metro-Detroit inland lakes. Camping week-ends at Lakeport State Park, Port Austin, on Lake Huron, and Higgins Lake. We sail drizzle or shine, as long as conditions are safe.

GDSC history

Fleet 50, was established in 1963 by a group of small boat sailors who chose Sailfish and Sunfish sailboats because of their one-design aspect, which ensures a fair competition between sailors.

Though the Sailfish is no longer in production, the Sunfish lives on. Our purpose was to enjoy the sport of sailboat racing and the camaraderie of people with like interests. Our aim is the same today.

Racing is our focus. We include camping weekends and other activities to appeal to all sailors.

Our experienced members are happy to share their sailing knowledge and give tips to improve newcomers' skills and safety.
